I was raised in Pittsburgh, PA. up through my college years. After graduating with a BSBA in marketing from Miami University of Oxford, OH., I lived in a number of cities before ending up in the Charlotte area in 1986. I moved to the Lake Wylie area in 1991 where I met my wonderful wife, Melanie. We raised our two children here, and what I remember most is always being involved with the kids' activities. Whether coaching Tee-ball, Soccer, Basketball, or running swim meets, or the church basketball program, I was always involved with children. Once my kids were grown and left home and I retired, I was looking for something to become involved with to give back to the community and be involved with children. When Wayne Lynch approached me and told me about the Mayday Project I knew I had found the vehicle that would allow me to help children on an ongoing basis.
Lake Wylie has been home to my family for almost 20 years. Originally from Travelers Rest, SC, I finished my Finance degree at Coastal Carolina and have worked in the financial industry ever since. Being the Treasurer for Mayday has given me an insight into not only our exceptional donors and supporters, but also the needs within the community. The first hand stories of how Mayday directly helps people is heartwarming. I like to think of us as the giver of last resort. We're ready to throw a lifeline to those in need right in our backyard.
I grew up and raised my family in northern New Jersey, with a bachelors degree in finance from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and an MBA from the New York Institute of Technology . I retired from a banking career in New York City in 2016, and my husband John and I relocated here to Lake Wylie. It is a wonderful place to live, but we are aware of many needy people dealing with issues including poverty, homelessness and physical and mental health challenges. Mayday plays such a critical role in providing essential, timely
support to those less fortunate living here and in neighboring communities. It is especially gratifying to work closely with local charities to understand their needs.
Raised in Manchester-By-The-Sea, MA, graduated from American International College and started my career in the consumer products industry that continues with my own company. My wife, Nina, and I moved to South Carolina in 1998. I joined the Mayday Board in 2018 and became president in 2019. Mayday gives me the opportunity to serve my community uniquely with emergency funding for our agencies' unbudgeted unexpected situations. The funding Mayday supplies truly enhances the lives of needy children and their families in our community.
My wife Mamie and I moved to South Carolina from Cleveland Ohio in 2006 for my work, after previous stays in Pittsburgh and Columbus OH. The sun and warmth were much welcomed. We both graduated from WVU and I received an MS from Carnegie- Mellon as well. Since retiring I learned more and more through sponsorship of Mayday about the needs of children in our community, a need we didn't see in and around our home. The more I learned, the more it became apparent Mayday was an opportunity to make a difference and help those that were truly in need. Fortunately I was able to join the board. The agencies we sponsor are on the front lines of that effort directly supporting them, especially in hard times. With that exposure Mayday has brought to me, I've joined the front line battle as a Guardian ad Litem, a program supported by the county providing support and oversight directed towards children displaced due to neglect or abuse, assuring their safe environment.
My husband, Paul, and I moved to Lake Wylie in 2020 from the Washington, D.C. area. Despite the pandemic, we were welcomed to the River Hills community with open arms (and face masks!) After a career on and around Capitol Hill, I knew I wanted to find a meaningful purpose in my new home where I could help others who may have unmet needs. My neighbor, Roseann Stichnoth, is a tremendous ambassador for the Mayday Project. I was quickly captured by the needs of the surrounding community and the extraordinary mission of Mayday. Its focus on being an avenue to assist other nonprofit agencies that are doing tremendous work but may experience unexpected or immediate needs is a missing link to helping needy children and families in our area. I especially appreciate that the funds Mayday raises stay local and that we are truly helping to change lives.
Born and raised in upstate New York, my wife Lois and I were married in 1976 and are blessed with four children and four grandchildren. I graduated from Siena College with a BBA in Accounting. I’m a CPA having worked in Public Accounting, as well as, CFO of several financial institutions. Lois and I have a passion for helping others, her as an EMT and me coaching various youth sports. Since arriving in South Carolina in 2018, Lois volunteers, and serves on the Board of the Sweet Repeat, and I volunteer at the Community Cafe washing dishes, along with my recent election to the MayDay Board. Personally, MayDay’s on call funding for the unexpected, whenever and wherever needed, are truly a compelling story of serving others.
